Song of the Week: Seafret ‘Oceans’

This weeks song of the week is a song titled “Oceans” by the indie band Seafret. The songs lyrics are heartbreaking, describing how sometimes love is sometimes out of reach. With lyrics like “We hide our emotions. Under the surface and try to pretend” this song is dedicated to the people who are going through break ups and heartbreaks. This is a great song to listen when you’re alone, just wanting to relax and ponder about life.

*P.S. For any Game of Thrones fans, the actress in the video is no other than Maisie Williams who plays Arya Stark.

Stromae More than Just a Singer

I find music, in every language, to be wonderful so when I was invited by a friend to see Belgium singer Stromae automatically my response was to say “Yes of course I would love to go.” Not everyone enjoys foreign music, people usually find it strange, I on the other hand thought of it as a great opportunity to expand my musical taste. Although I have no understanding of the French language, it’s a once in a life time experience to see a foreign artist.

I wasn’t wrong, Stromae was not only a great singer but he was an amazing performer. I’ve been to my fair share of concerts and Stromae was the first artist I’ve seen that constantly likes to interact with the audience. After each song, he would go out of his way to talk the crowd and genuinely seemed happy to be on stage. Stromae was also an amazing performer, he uniquely had choreographed skits to go with each performance. For example for the song “Formidable”, he gave an incredibly believable performance of pretending to act drunk. To go with the performance he pretended to vomit, spit actually dropped to the floor of the stage, and he eventually was escorted off stage by one of his musicians.

Not once was I bored during his performance, each song made me want to dance and sing along. By the end of the concert, neither the audience nor Stromae wanted the concert to end, eventually Stromae did an acapella performance with his musicians with was a nice spin on things. But thus, the concert needed to end and it did in a spectacular way with electric music heavily playing.

Retro sounding Dreamers

I love discovering music through the music service Spotify, you can always find great sounding indie artists. Recently, I discovered the band Dreamers through Spotify.

DreamersThe band music is a unique blend of grunge, punk and indie-pop. They have this interesting retro vibe that is hard not to fall in love with.

Infectious and nostalgic psychedelic rock music defines the small indie band.  The music from this band is extremely catchy, with upbeat guitar sounds and passionate choruses. Along with catch beats, the lead sing has a very calming voice that compliments the group’s retro grunge style very well.

Currently the band has only released a self-titled EP containing four songs, in the summer they are expected to release a full album titled This Album Doesn’t Exist? Later on this year. Although the band has only four songs, all of them are well written and perfectly catchy songs.

The best song has to be “Wolves”, it is a song that focus heavily on the guitar and pop sounding beats. The song is about how other people can drag you down if you pay attention to them. Even with the strong message the song is an upbeat-pop tune that makes you want to dance. The music video of the song is also great, it is a parody of typical 80’s horror films.

Overall, the band Dreamers is an incredibly talented band that I hope becomes very successful in the future.
