Turns out the two-year old rumor was true. Selena Gomez has revealed that she’s been diagnosed with lupus and has undergone chemotherapy.
In a new interview with Billboard, the 23-year-old singer opened up about her diagnosis.
“I was diagnosed with lupus, and I’ve been through chemotherapy,” Gomez said. “That’s what my break was really about. I could’ve had a stroke.”
Nearly two years ago, reports that Selena Gomez was battling lupus first broke. The singer nor her reps ever confirmed or denied if Gomez was dealing with health problems.
It wasn’t long after that, that reports started emgering that Gomez had entered rehab. Her rep confirmed the singer sought treatment at Dawn at The Meadows recovery facility in Wickenburg, Ariz., for “emotional issues” and “partying,” but specified she wasn’t seeking treatment for substance abuse.
“I wanted so badly to say, ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re a––holes.’ I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again” added Gomez regarding the rumors.
The singer also revealed that she channled her frustration for the media into her music.
“I’m so f–––ing nice to everybody, and everyone is so vile to me. I’ve been working since I was 7. I’ve been a UNICEF ambassador since I was 17,” she says. “It’s so disappointing that I’ve become a tabloid story. That hate motivated me.”
Despite battling lupus, Gomez is ready to enter the music world once again. Her anticipated new album Revival is dropping this friday, on Oct. 9 .
