Album Review:  Mother Mother’s No Culture is The Album You’ve Been Waiting For

In a sea of infinite amount of music being upload everyday, I still end up feeling like I have nothing left to listen. Time and time again, I crave music that makes me feel alive and soothes my soul. Mother Mother’s newest album No Culture has been the closest answer to my prayers. The album cover, a creepy baby in black ink, makes their music seem dark and deceiving, but its exactly what I’ve been craving. Its the perfect mix of rock, alternative and pop. Its been a while I’ve loved an album from beginning to end. The albums experimentations with sounds and lyrics is different, in a good type of way.
Mother Mother is a Canadian indie rock band based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The band consists of Ryan Guldemond on guitar and vocals, Molly Guldemond on vocals and keyboard, Jasmin Parkin on keyboard and vocals, and Ali Siadat on drums. The album opens up with the fiery single “Free.” The screeching chorus paired with the intense emotional guitar and drum melodies, is a signal of what to expect from the LP. The whole album is intensely fun to listen to with important messages of friendship and the world around us.

Concert Review: Bastille Bring Wild World to LA

To promote their sophomore album Wild World, Bastille has been very busy performing at some of the first venues they ever played in the U.S. On Monday, Oct. 09, ‘The Born to Be Wild World North American Mini-Tour Tour’ came to an end at LA’s most famous and intimate venue, The Troubador.

In front of super fans and new listeners, the band transformed their set into two marvelous acts. The first act, celebrated of the new album. The band performed Wild World in its entirety.

Humbly, admitting they were still adjusting to the new songs, the band sure knows how to get a crowd to go wild. The band opened with the first single off the new album, Good Grief. Song after song, everyone was sweating and dancing around. The newest album by the band is filled with an enormous amount of variety and unique sounds.

From slow depressing songs like ‘Two Evils’ to infectious songs like’Set Them Off,’ the bands diversity and electric mixing always got the crowd going crazy. The band even gave a special first time performance of the single, ‘Way Beyond.’  Lead singer Dan Smith proclaimed he might forget the lyrics, but the song seemed seamless performed. If your ever considering watching a band live. I definitely recommend Bastille.  Continue reading “Concert Review: Bastille Bring Wild World to LA”

Album Review: The Mowgli’s Bring Cali Fun Vibes with Fourth Album ‘Where’d Your Weekend Go?’

Indie pop band, The Mowgli’s keeps the summer vibe alive with their fourth album, Where’d Your Weekend Go?

True to the bands signature Cali style, the band newest album is infectiously fun. The album takes the listener through an adventure of deep life lessons in a energetic production.

The band plays it safe with the album, showcasing the groups perfect harmonization and contagious lyrics. The album begins with the carefree, “don’t care about anything” anthem, ‘So What.’

The Mowgli’s created a solid album, showcasing their vibrant style while adding tiny trickles of new sounds. The single ‘Monster,’ demonstrates the bands ability to produce a faced paced gritty single filled with an infectious repetitive piano note. ‘Last Forever,’ is also produced with an infectious melody that is perfect to sing along to. One of my personal favorites,  ‘Spacin out’ contains energetically high paced lyrics that are perfectly combined with a jazzy vibe. ‘Arms & Legs’, channels in the bands soulful energy, to create a folk style song about a horrible depressing relationship.

Final thoughts: Every single uses the bands strength, yet overall the album feels average. The band needs to get over their comfort zone and grow as a band. The Mowgli’s play it safe with their music. The band uses the same format for most of their songs, they create happy and fun productions filled with infectious hamonizations(which sound amazing).

Album Review: Group Love-Big Mess

Group Love - November detail 1 008
Group Love – Big Mess

Life may be a big mess sometimes, but Grouplove’s third and latest album, Big Mess, makes those struggles seem like a breeze with their signature cheery pop-rock style.

Grouplove is an American indie rock band that was formed in 2009. Band members include Hannah Hooper (vocals, keyboards), Christian Zucconi (vocals, guitar), Sean Gadd (bass), Andrew Wessen (guitar, vocals), and Ryan Rabin (drums).

The album emphasizes on the bands anxieties and frustrations of the world. Hooper and Zucconi, romantic couple and band members, grew inspiration from their chaotic journey as they became to new parents.

Track-by-track review:

1. Welcome to Your Life– There’s no better way to open up an album than with a catchy tune! Welcome to Your life is that fun, chaotic, loud radio-friendly song.
